I was kinda watching this episode of ‘Orange is the new Black’ where everyone was giving their definition of love. I think its a general consensus that Poussey’s definition should be accepted for the show ;)… [By the way, this is me recommending Orange is the New Black,… it is Legen… w8 4 it]…
Well, all the talk about love got me thinking about what it means because some people when asked give answers like, “I don’t know,… but I know that when I find it, I’ll know”… [like seriously… how can you recognise something you have never seen?]. For some, the lines between love, lust, infatuation and obsession don’t even exist.
Anyways, as a Christian Brother, I subscribe to the 1 Corinthians 13 vs 4-8 definition of love. It goes something like,…
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails
When looked at carefully, I realised that the qualities that love is ‘not’ outweigh the qualities that love is. Hence most times, we try to express our love by not being envious, rude or proud, and pay so much attention to that that we forget to be patient, kind, trusting, protecting [Please not over-protecting,… but then again, who wrote the manual for the extents of protection] and hopeful.
Unfortunately Love is an AND gate… with one component missing, the output will always be zero… I just hope that showing 9 out of 16 qualities gives us a pass mark at love.

Etimbuk, the part about the is/is nots of love really struck me. Never quite saw it like that – what it is/does and what is not/does not. Anyway, nice one! (y). And there you go with the engineering stuff again – AND gate loun loun (teasing). 😉

lol @ can I be in Love and not know it. Sometimes I think there is a difference between the “something” felt by two persons (of the opposite sex) that would want to make them spend their lives together and the 1st Corinthians 13 love applies to everyone, that is how you should treat everyone whether man or woman, adult or child irrespective of whether you are in a relationship with them or not.
The “something” mentioned above is what I do not really know. The “thing” that will make a geek leave her book and be thinking about “him”, the “thing” that will make her cry when she wants to talk with him and he is either asleep or busy :). The “thing” that might makes her spend 5 hours on the phone talking with him and not feel tired. The “thing” that will make her want to wait for 15 months for “him” because he is a geek and a late boomer. I am not sure I understand what that “thing” is. May God give me understanding. #TalkFromExperience
